Lady Tigers get big win over Marshall on Senior Night

Last home game for seniors an emotional one for players, families

The Mount Pleasant Lady Tiger Volleyball team hosted its final home game of the season this past Friday. The Lady Tigers welcomed the Marshall Mavericks on Senior Night. It was an emotional evening for the players and parents alike as they would cheer on the senior Lady Tigers for one last time.

The evening would be a storybook ending for eight seniors as they would pick up the win against the Marshall Mavericks in 4 sets. The Lady Tigers would beat the Mavericks by a score of 25-19, 25-17 21-25, and 25-19.

Following the game there was a ceremony to highlight all the accomplishments the seniors had achieved in their four years of athletics. The eight graduating seniors were: Shelbi Haupt, Keily Castanon, Alexia Nance, Blakely Cheek, Erika Vargas, Taynasha Wilkerson, Keren Mendoza and Hailyn Blackstone.

Coach Stewart said after the game, “It was a good night. Glad we could pick up a win on senior night. We’ve got three games left that we need to win to give us a chance to play into November. We need to keep working hard and push through the end of district play.”

It has been a season of ups and downs for the Lady Tigers as they currently sit in 6th place and outside of the playoffs. The Lady Tigers will take on the top half of the district as they travel to face Hallsville, Texas High and Sulphur Springs in the coming weeks.

The Lady Tigers are not mathematically eliminated from the playoffs yet. It would require three road victories against three teams the Lady Tigers lost to previously this season.

The Lady Tigers hope to ride the momentum of a big win against Marshall in their effort to make it to the postseason.
