Cross country teams fare well at Titus County Fair competition

This past weekend the Mount Pleasant Cross Country Team competed at the Annual Titus Country Fair Cross Country competition. The Mt. Pleasant Teams did very well. Of 6 races they competed in, 4 teams placed 1st and the other two took second. Here is a summary of the team placings: HS Girls varsity- 1st

HS Boys varsity- 2nd

HS Girls junior varsity- 1st HS Boys junior varsity- 1st Jr. High Girls- 2nd

Jr. High Boys- 1st

Girls’ varsity took first place with a score of 19 points.

There were several other teams competing including Sulphur Springs, Pine Tree, John Tyler, Texas High and Marshall.

Senior Jasmin Martinez won 1st place with a time of 19:28 (a personal record for her on this course). In close pursuit was Sophomore Estela Dorantes in 2nd with a time of 19:39. Rounding out the varsity was Sophomore Zaydie Garrett in 4th, Junior Martina Ramirez in 5th, Freshman Jennifer Soto in 7th, Senior Grasiela Gaona in 9th and Senior Lizett De Jesusin, 19th.

The boys varsity team took 2nd place, 15 points behind Sulphur Springs with a team score of 56. First for the men’s team was Junior Israel Hernandez in 3rd place and a time of 16:17, also a personal record for him on this course.

Rounding out the boy’s varsity was Senior Hugo Valdez in 7th, Senior Jose Mendoza 13th, Freshman Osbaldo Benitez 16th, Freshman Christian Flores 17th and Junior Hector Escobar in 21st.

The high school teams next travel to Lindale this week for the Eagle Invitational. District competition is next Tuesday, Oct. 10 beginning at 9 a.m. MPHS will be hosting the meet.

The junior high teams finish their season on Saturday Oct. 7 in Longview hosted by Pine Tree.
