Chapel Hill girls win again, defeating Atlanta 71-59 despite Rabbits’ height
The Chapel Hill Lady Devils traveled to Atlanta this past Tuesday to take on the high-powered Lady Rabbits. Atlanta started two post players at 6-2 who were exceptionally athletic. The first quarter was back and forth with Chapel Hill finishing ahead, 17-12.
The second quarter was all Atlanta as they outscored the Lady Devils 15-24 to take a three-point lead into halftime.
At halftime the Lady Devils made a few adjustments that helped in the third quarter to regain the lead by three, 57-54. In the fourth quarter the Lady Devils not only controlled the clock, but controlled the game.
Atlanta was a zone defensive juggernaut with their height and speed. Chapel Hill pulled the ball out to force Atlanta to come out of their zone and it worked beautifully.
It was one lay-up after another, forcing Atlanta to call time-out to adjust. Following the time-out Atlanta was forced to foul, putting the Lady Devils on the line.
Maybe the lady Rabbits didn’t know it, but Chapel Hill last year was the state of Texas 3A Team Free Throw champions and it showed. The Lady Devils in the fourth quarter went a perfect 10 for 10 with four different players shooting from the charity stripe.
Chapel Hill won in the end, 71-59, their third consecutive game scoring 70-plus points.
The Lady Devils were set to host Linden-Kildare Friday at Chapel Hill.
