Wayne Plunkett, Sr.
Willard Wayne Plunkett, Sr., age 86, of Marietta, Texas, passed away Friday, September 1, 2017 in Atlanta, Texas. Wayne was born March 3, 1931 in Windsor, Missouri to Clyde Monroe and Mary Johanna Miller Plunkett.
Wayne was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Marietta, Texas. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Baylor University and studied one year at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary school. He was a Minister of Music and Education for Enon Association for many years, ministering in Texas, Missouri, Florida, and Hawaii, and was very involved in building the churches where he served. He was a former member of the Barber Shop Choir in San Angelo, Texas and was also a former Lion’s Club member. He enjoyed carpentry and spending time tutoring his grandsons with their schoolwork as well as working as a substitute teacher while living in Hawaii.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Mary Plunkett; and one brother, Spencer Plunkett.
Surviving family members include his wife of 44 years, Bettye Plunkett of Marietta, Texas; three sons, Wayne Plunkett, Jr. of Dallas, Texas, Robert Plunkett of Williamsburg, Virginia, and David Plunkett of Williamsburg, Virginia; one daughter, Amy Plunkett of Yorktown, Virginia; one stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Randy and Mary Ann Brock of Marietta, Texas; two grandsons, David Brock and wife Carmen, and Chris Brock and wife Cris; one great-granddaughter Lola Ann Brock.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, September 3, 2017 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 4, 2017 at Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Marietta, Texas with Dr. Chas Carlisle officiating. Interment will follow at Naples Cemetery in Naples, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Marietta, Texas or Enon Ministry Center in Linden, Texas.
