Wayne Meredith Lewis passed away on August 23, 2017 after a brief, unexpected illness. He died at a Tyler, Texas hospital with his two children, Logan and Lauren, at his bedside.

Born on January 6, 1944 to Ida and Leroy Lewis, Wayne was an only child who grew up and attended his early years of schooling in Rossmoor, California. Smart, ingenious and ambitious, Wayne completed BS and Engineering Management degrees at UCLA with graduate studies at Princeton, Stanford and University of San Francisco.

Wayne’s two children from a previous marriage survive him, Logan Hunter Lewis and Lauren Meredith Lewis. Lauren and Logan were the essential focus of Wayne’s energy and his existence.

Wayne possessed an intense energy and instinctive aptitude that he channeled most successfully to his love and deep devotion for his two children; his numerous loyal, long-lasting friendships; and his extraordinary inventive and entrepreneurial achievements.

Wayne recently retired from a several-year assignment as a consulting Project Manager for Shell Oil Company. He greatly looked forward to many new journeys, including big sailing adventures on his fully restored 1982 Bertram yacht. He was a highly accomplished sailor, fisherman, glider pilot and skydiver who loved the ocean, the sky and the outdoors.

Wayne’s long, successful career as Project Manager, Construction Manager and Project Controls Manager took him all over the world. His assignments included Abu Dhabi, Anchorage, AK, Canada, China, Colombia, Dubai, Houston, TX, Indonesia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Mexico, Philippines, Sakhalin Island, Santa Barbara, CA, Saudi Arabia and Thailand.

From 1967 to 1973, Wayne saw active duty in Viet Nam with the 1st Special Forces Regiment of the US Army. He remained in the Reserves until 1991. He was a Life Member of the Special Forces Association and a member of the Special Forces Operations Association.

Wayne’s children, his family, many friends and colleagues grieve deeply at the sudden loss of this extraordinary, fun and very talented man. As he requested, Wayne’s ashes will be scattered over the Pacific Ocean that he loved. A memorial celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
