Lou Ella Turman

Lou Ella Turman, 100, of Mount Pleasant, Texas passed away peacefully at 6:28 PM surrounded by her family. She was born on February 7, 1917 in Mount Pleasant, Texas to James Simpson & Alma (Evans) Hobbs and passed away on January 7, 2018 in Mount Pleasant, Texas.

Mrs. Turman was a member of the Tennison Memorial United Methodist Church and was retired as a bookkeeper for a Chevrolet dealership.

She was survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Peggy & Dick Templeton; son & daughter-in-law, Gary & Linda Turman; grandchildren & spouses, Rich & Cathy Templeton, Steven Templeton, Diana & Lou Gabriel, Christiana & Britton Keene, Kimberly & Travis Weatherred; great grandchildren, Andrew Templeton, Richard Templeton, Jr., Sean Templeton, Lucas Gabriel, Kenzie Sperling, Ella Gabriel, Chloe Keene, Daegan Weatherred; great great grandchild, Madelyne Templeton; sister, Beatrice Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Turman; parents, James Simpson & Alva (Evans) Hobbs; brother, Dean Hobbs; sisters, Mildred Thornton & Wanda Roach & three infant siblings.

Memorial donations may be made to the Cypress Basin Hospice at 207 Morgan Street, Mt. Pleasant, TX 75455

A visitation will be held from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Monday, January 15, 2018 at the Bates Cooper Sloan Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 16, 2018 in the Bates Cooper Sloan Chapel. Interment will follow in the Farmers Academy Cemetery.

Charlene Drake, age 90, of Naples, Texas, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018, in Daingerfield, Texas. Charlene was born April 5, 1927 in Mount Vernon, Texas to Lester Lee Draper and Lucy Lee Padgett Draper.

Charlene was a member at First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant where she served as the church secretary for many years. She retired from the Texas Department of Human Services where she worked as the secretarial office manager. Charlene enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, cooking, and gardening.

Charlene was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Pamela Rutledge; and one granddaughter, Leslie Lykins.

Surviving family members include two daughters, Artis Roberts of Naples, Texas and Kathy Powers of Hot Springs, Arkansas; one son and daughter-in-law, Cliff and Wanda Drake of Nash, Texas; one sister, Anna Davis of Humble, Texas; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 8, 2018 at Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, Texas with Bro. Tim Anderson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association.
