Jay Shelton Jackson

          Memorial graveside services for Jay Shelton Jackson, 69, formerly of Nacogdoches, will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin. Mr. Jackson was born January 12, 1948 in Pittsburg, Texas, the son of the late J. Travis Jackson and Thelma Jo Shelton Jackson, and died Thursday, September 7, 2017 in Diboll.

Mr. Jackson graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1966. While in high school, he achieved his Eagle Scout and played trombone in the MPHS Tiger Band. During college at The University of Texas, Mr. Jackson pushed around “Big Bertha” as a Drum Wrangler for the band. He was a graduate of South Texas School of Law in Houston, Texas. In his adult life, he was an avid coin and numismatic collector.

          He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael O. and Kirsti Jackson of Washington; grandsons, Arthur and David Jackson, both of Washington State; sister and brother-in-law, Karen J. and Gene E. Bailey of Sulphur Springs, TX; nephews, Nathan Edmond Bailey of Sulphur Springs, TX, Eric Lee Bailey of Grandview, TX, and Joel Aaron Bailey of Sulphur Springs, TX; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his parents, J. Travis and Thelma Jo Jackson.
