GARY LYNN BASS

Gary Lynn Bass, 69, fulfilled his kingdom purpose and was welcomed into his eternal home with Jesus on June 20, 2020. He was born to the late Leonard and Lucy Ann Barrett Bass on Dec. 17, 1950 in Dekalb, TX. He accepted his calling into the ministry at a young age and pastored multiple congregations from San Antonio to Northeast Texas including his current church at Hickory Hill outside of Mt. Pleasant, TX. Along with his pastoral ministry, Gary used his positions in school transportation, security, police officer, and defensive driving instructor as an opportunity to share Jesus with those he came in contact with.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother Merrill Bass, sister-in-law Shirley Bass, nephew Wetzel Bass, and son-in-law Steven Freeman. Also preceding him in death are his motherin-law and father-in-law: Nora and I.L. Hearron, and 6 brothers-in-law: James Hearron, Melvin Hearron and wife Hazel, Ray Hearron, Rodney Hearron, Sherwin Darnell, and Loren Stephens.

Gary is survived by his wife of 49 years, Paula Hearron Bass. His daughters Amanda Woods and husband Donald Woods from Mt. Pleasant, TX and Marsha Geraci and husband Thomas Geraci Jr. of Texarkana, TX. Eight grandchildren Krissa Woods, Jonathan Woods, Jaycee Woods, Cayden Freeman and wife Brianna Freeman, Brooklynn Freeman, Taelor Jones and husband Joshua Jones, Carley Geraci, and Jurman Williams. One great-grandchild Elias Jones. His sisters Nora Bass Denny and husband Rusty Denny of New Mexico and Lana Bass Kocurek and husband Glen Kocurek of Henderson, TX. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Other survivors include 3 brothers-in-law: Buddy Hearron and wife Charlene of Flint, TX, Jerry Hearron and wife Mary of Mt. Pleasant, TX, Larry Hearron and wife Lavonne of Wilkinson, TX, and five sisters-in-law: Grace Hearron of Talco, TX, Nellie Hearron of Naples, TX, Melba Hendricks and husband Flint of Talco, TX, Helen Darnell of Talco, TX, and Wanda Stephens of Paris, TX.

Visitation was held Monday, June 22, 2020 at the Bates Cooper Sloan Funeral Home.

Services were held Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at the South Jefferson Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the Hickory Hill Cemetery.
