Mt. Pleasant – Harold R (Randy) Dungan, 76, passed away at his home in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, on September 27, 2020.He was born on July 28, 1944, to Harold and Sibyl Dungan in Lockhart, Texas. He was a graduate of Northwestern State University with a Master’s degree in Education. Mr. Dungan served in the United States Air Force during the Viet Nam era. When he left the service he was Staff Sargent and was honored with the Outstanding Unit Award, the National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After his military service he attended Stephen F. Austin State University and received another Master’s degree in Education with an emphasis on School Administration. He was a classroom teacher, school counselor, principal and curriculum director in various school districts. On his death he had retired and was living in Mt. Pleasant, Texas.
Randy was part of the honor guard from the American Legion post in Hughes Springs. At some point he served as the Commander. This service was most important to him, and he felt this was a true calling.
Randy was married to his devoted wife, Carolyn, for 40 years. They shared the love of camping and fishing, and they enjoyed living at their lake home until the upkeep was more than either could handle. He and Carolyn still have their blueberry farm and enjoyed going out to their farm whenever possible.
Randy was a member of Tennison Memorial United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday class. In addition to being an usher Randy served on the Communion team. He was active in the church in many ways; yet preparing Communion each month was a commitment he was happy to fulfill.
His parents preceded him in death, father-in-law Weldon Clay, mother-in-law Martha Clay, brother-in-law Allen Clay. He was also preceded in death by a son Nolan Dungan and a stepson Jeff Farrer.
In addition to his wife, Carolyn, he is survived by his sister Cathy Rodgers, brother-in-law Jerry Clay, son Peter Dungan of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, step-son Scott Farrer of Virginia Beach, Virginia, four grandchildren Taylor Dungan, Taryn Dungan, Tatum Dungan, Katlyn Farrer, and a precious great grandson Carter Rogers.
The service will be held at Tennison Methodist Church on East 3rd St. in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM Wednesday, September 30, 2020 with services to follow at 10:30 AM. The family requests that all attending will be wearing a mask.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Titus County food pantry or to Tennison Memorial United Methodist Church, 313 N. Church Street.
