Doris Annette “Nanny” Ray
Doris Annette “Nanny” Ray, age 79, of Mount Pleasant, passed away in the late afternoon hours of Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at the Titus Regional Medical Center in Mount Pleasant. Doris was born on June 22, 1938 in Hopkins County, Texas to the late William H. and Dovie Mitchell Wynn. Doris married the love of her life and her best friend, Eugene David Ray, in 1954. Together they would spend the next 50 years raising a family and living a lifetime of memories until he preceded her in death in 2004.
Doris attended the Calvary Chapel Church in Mount Pleasant when her health allowed. She was an avid reader and an excellent cook. Nanny worked for over 20 years at Mission Manor Nursing Home in Mount Vernon where she would exchange cooking recipes with her coworkers. Those who knew her best will remember Nanny in her happiest times spent with her beloved family during the holidays and at family gatherings.
Doris is survived by two sons, Billy Gene Ray of Fort Worth and David Alton Ray, and wife Debbie, of Lubbock; grandchildren, Amber Beaudoin, and husband Ray, Jenny Barnes, and husband Bud, Cory Ray, and wife Beth, Haley Ray, Nathan Hamilton, Bryce Ray, and Samantha Gray; three sisters, Ruth Johnson of Greenville, Jane Littrell of Saltillo, and Sue Causey of Friendswood; and by a host of great-grandchildren and other relatives and very special friends.
Doris was also preceded in death by one daughter, Sherry Denise Ray, and by one brother, Charles Wynn.
Funeral services for Doris “Nanny” Ray will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, September 1, 2017 at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home with Dave Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Stout’s Creek Cemetery in Saltillo with Bud Barnes, Bussey Barnes, Matt Ewasik, Kenny Murdock, Bryce Ray, and Cory Ray serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home.
