Maggie Lee Hester Cox

Maggie Lee Hester Cox, 104 years of age, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2018, in Mt. Pleasant, Texas.

Maggie Lee Hester Cox was born on August 24, 1914, in Titus County, Texas, to Henry Franklin Hester and Para Lee Ellis Hester. Maggie was a proud, lifelong resident of Titus County. Her family members were some of the first settlers and ranchers in Titus County during the Republic of Texas years of 1830-1845. She was a distinguished member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and was a dedicated member of the North Ridge Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant.

Maggie married Frank Gladney Cox on October 12, 1932, when they eloped to Ashdown, Arkansas, for their wedding ceremony. They had celebrated 68 years of marriage before Frank’s death in 2000. Continuing the pioneer spirit, they established a ranching operation and enjoyed many years of family time on the ranch. Her true passion was spending quality time with her children and grandchildren.

Maggie is survived by her daughter, Janet Cox Russell; her son, Charles Larry Cox and daughter-in-law, Paula Cox; her grandchildren, Gregg Cox, Britt Cox, Monica Welborn, Clay Russell, John Cox, Ryon Cox, and Charlotte Phillips; her great-grandchildren, Maxx Cox, Alex Cox, Tyler Welborn, Jack Welborn, Tripp Phillips, Emery Cox; and, great-great-grandchild, Ava Cox. She is preceded in death by her son, Ray Franklin Cox, and her husband, Frank Gladney Cox.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 4, at the Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Visitation will be during the hour before the funeral service.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the many kindnesses of friends, family, and church members, as well as their sincere appreciation for the support and professional services of Titus Regional Medical Center, Texas Helping Hands, Heritage Park Village Assisted Living, Greenhill Villas Nursing Home, and Chambers Choice Hospice Care.
