David Whittington, 79, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on August 11, 2018 at his residence. He was born on July 16, 1939 in Van Zandt County to W. D. Whittington, Sr. & Margarette (Robbins) Whittington.
David’s working career involved being the safety supervisor for Dorchester Refinery, part owner of a grocery supply business called VLW with Johnny Vinyard and Red Logan, he served as a volunteer fireman for 25 years as well as working with the police department. David enjoyed coaching little league baseball and he loved to fish.
He was survived by his loving wife, Linda Jean Whittington; son, David Whittington, III and his wife Amy; daughter, Linda Jeanette Mottu and her husband Michael; grandchildren, Zakk and Zeth Whittigton, Rachael Russell, Connie Pilarski, Tristan, Zack & Justin Mottu; great grandchildren, Ty Schuler, Drake Boles, Acelan Pilarski & Julianne Mottu.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Kay Whittington; brother, Roy R. Whittington; sister, Margaret Ann Powers.
A visitation was held Monday, August 13, 2018 at the Bates Cooper Sloan Funeral Home. Services were held August 14, 2018 at the Bates Cooper Sloan Chapel. Interment followed in the Old Union Cemetery.
