Property taxes can be lowered by keeping bees

Property taxes on small acreages can now be lowered by keeping bees on the property. Texas law allows bees and bee hives to qualify for reducing property taxes on plots ranging from 5 to 20 acres similar to livestock or raising hay.

Early morning structure fire breaks out in Cookville

At 5:54 a.m. on Thursday, firefighters responded to a structure fire in Cookville on County Road 3070. Upon arrival, the Mount Pleasant Fire Department found a shed measuring approximately 400 square feet engulfed in flames, with a mobile home nearby.

Students discuss working for college education

Brooke Ramsey, Joselynn Smith, Paisley McGee, and Destinyea Cato all have something in common: they have all taken part in the Work4College program offered by Northeast Texas Community College. A program that helps students pay their way through college by working on campus, it has been a symbiotic relationship between the college and over 300 students who have taken part in it.
