Gladewater Baptist Church celebrates 150 years, new pastor

One hundred fifty years ago, on Christmas Day, a wagon train arrived 9 miles north of Mount Pleasant on Harts Bluff Road from Jefferson County, Alabama. Part of the settlers started having prayer services under a large tree that stood on the hill overlooking the spring. With a small beginning, Spring Hill Baptist Church was formed. Ten years later, the church moved to a little schoolhouse to the south called Gladewater, and the church changed its name to Gladewater Baptist Church.

Texas Commission approves SWEPCO rate increase

The Public Utility Commission of Texas has approved a base rate increase for Southwestern Electric Power Co., a unit of American Electric Power (Nasdaq: AEP). The PUCT approved the increase in base rates to recover SWEPCO’s investments in generation, transmission and distribution facilities since 2016, plus increased operations and maintenance costs to provide reliable and safe service to Texas customers.

MPFD responds to highway fire

On Saturday, around 1 p.m., a Ford pickup truck caught fire on Highway 49 in front of First Baptist Church.
