Senator talks voter fraud, taxes at September’s ‘Hot Topic Tuesday’
The Mount Pleasant Rotary Club convened for “Hot Topic Tuesday” on Sept. 19, at the Mount Pleasant Country Club, welcoming guest speaker State Sen. Bryan Hughes.
Bob Hourahan introduced Hughes. Born and raised in East Texas, Hughes has received awards for his work in the Texas Legislature, including the Taxpayer Champion Award from Texans for Fiscal Responsibility; the Horizon Award from Texas Right to Life; and “Defender of the American Dream” from Americans for Prosperity.
The Texas Right to Life Association named Hughes the “Pro-Life Whip of the Texas House” in 2011.
Hughes is a small businessman from East Texas. He attended Tyler Junior College and the University of Texas at Tyler, where he became the first member of his family to earn a bachelor’s degree.
He is currently serving his first term in the Texas Senate representing the 16 counties of Senate District One in Northeast Texas, which consists of approximately 900,000 people.
