Crowds turn out for Christmas on the Square 2017

Titus County residents enjoyed Christmas on the Square Dec. 1-3.

The annual event kicked off on Friday with ice skating and free pictures with Santa. Crowds took advantage of holiday shopping on the square with downtown merchants and live entertainment.

The O.B. Goolsby Memorial Chili Cookoff was held on Saturday, benefiting Hope Ministries. Hope Ministries’ mission is to set families free from financial dependencies; and to be led by God in giving back to the community through education and other tools needed to transform difficult situations.

The Annual Rotary Club Christmas Parade was held at 6 p.m. on Saturday. This year’s theme was “A Season of Hope”. The Christmas Parade is a gift to the community from the club.

First place in the float competition went to Annie Sims Elementary. Chapel Hill Elementary came in second, followed by P.E. Wallace in third. Vivian Fowler Elementary took fourth place. Elbia Garrett took first place in the decorated vehicles competition with a 1946 black Ford truck. Phil Scudder took second place in his 1955 red Thunderbird.
