Council votes to change architect for animal shelter
The Mount Pleasant City Council on Tuesday voted to cancel its contract with the architectural firm originally selected for a planned future animal shelter and go instead with the company that ranked second when planners first evaluated architects.
After canceling the agreement with Shelter Planners of America (SPA), the city will now depend on Brevard Architecture to provide conceptual design services for the new shelter.
The reasons for the change were financial. In developing a needs assessment SPA had provided a cost estimate that exceeded — in terms of size- and amenities-related expenses — what city officials were expecting, according to information provided to the council in preparation for Tuesday’s meeting.
Tuesday evening, Police Chief Wayne Isbell elaborated.
