Commissioners OK budget, tax rate in split votes

One commissioner decries increased county spending

The Titus County Commissioners Court on Monday approved the 2017-18 budget in a split vote, 3-2, and also okayed the 2017 tax rate with one member of the board dissenting.

The budgeting process has been going on since July, but the budget-related items on Monday’s agenda did not make it across the finish line smoothly, as commissioners discussed, primarily, the amount of road funding on the table as well as a proposed pay increase for a road department staffer.
