Over a dozen agenda items pass in special meeting

Almost all items on the agenda were approved at the Titus County Commissioner special court meeting, held on April 22. The approved items are as follows: • “TheTimberline” subdivision located on CR 4360 and CR 4365, submitted by Developer Bruce Harwell • Transfer and closeout of the remaining Right of Way Fund 075 to the General Fund to be used for any other Capital Project • LATCF-2520 annual report, these funds were received from the local assistance and tribal consistency fund and has been obligated for capital expenditures • Auctioneer Express to auction used equipment for the county • Extending the HVAC maintenance program contract with Roberts Air Conditioning, ending May 7, 2024 with option for renewal of 2 additional years • Interlocal cooperation contract failure to appear program between the Department of Public Safety of the State of Texas and the County Court of Titus • Accept the Award of Rural Law Enforcement Salary Assistant program grant (SB22) for county Attorney in the amount of $175k and the Sheriff’s Office for $350k as a Matter of Record • Accept the Award of Rural Law Enforcement Salary Assistant program grant (SB22) for District Attorney in the amount of $175k as a Matter of Record • Posting a 45 MPH speed limit sign on CR 1140 and adding stop signs at the intersection of • FM 1734 and CR 1240 on CR 1140 with possible action • Adding the Titus County Fraud, Waste, and Abuse policy to the employee handbook • Adding the Titus County Grant funded position disclaimer to the County Procedure in the employee handbook • Purchase of new 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD work truck quoted from TIPS purchasing Cooperative Contract for Precinct 1 • Consider Bucket Truck from shared equipment to be surplus or salvage and approve for sale • Property in accordance with Texas Government code section 551.072 with possible action taken.

Cinco de Mayo

Carnival games and rides, a Mariachi band, traditional Spanish dancing, street tacos, agua frescas, and the most delicious al pastor… all of that and more took place at the annual Cinco de Mayo festival in Mt. Pleasant. This festival has been ongoing since 2014. Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican victory of the French empire on May 5, 1862. See more on page 12.

Alexis Gonzalez, a standout student athlete at Harts Bluff High School, has enjoyed a stellar track and field season this year competing in the high jump. Her jump of 5’2” in the regional meet secured her second place and a spot at the 2024 UIL State Meet in Austin last week.

Flora Llaosantos turns 100-years-old

Staff Reporter Born in 1924, Pittsburg resident Flora Llaosantos is turning 100-years-old today, April 25. She was born in Kealea, Kauai in Hawaii, and at 3-years-old, her family moved to California.

Nuggets and a Cookie for the Heart

As I pulled into the convenience store parking lot, I was drawn to a man with fuzzy gray hair sitting in his wheelchair. I parked the car but kept staring as he skillfully maneuvered his wheelchair, avoiding any potential collision. He tightly clutched a bag of chicken nuggets as he alternated one hand with the other to move closer to the end of the building.
